Local news week of 13th June 2024

BBC Question Time In Epsom

On Thursday 30 May, Epsom College hosted BBC Question Time chaired by Fiona Bruce, some of the panel members were Damien Hinds MP, Wes Streeting MP and Nigel Farage. Local Question Time

The Epsom and Ewell Times will be staging a local election question time for the Epsom Parliamentary candidates at the Adrians theatre Nescot Reigate Road at 7 pm on Wednesday, the 26th of June. All are welcome.

Epsom Council’s My Soul Gallery Initiative

Epsom and Ewell Refugee Network and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council launch weekly art sessions for the refugee community, culminating in an exhibition showcasing participants’ talents. The initiative promotes creativity and community support.

Art Competition to Celebrate Ancient Trees

An exciting competition launched across Surrey on the 1st June for children aged 4-11. The children are encouraged to head to their local Surrey library to pick up a template and create artwork celebrating ancient trees for a new children’s book ‘The Thousand Year Tree’. Urgent Fundraising for Toddler’s Cancer Treatment

NHS England’s decision to move children’s cancer services from South London to central London raises concerns about family accessibility and patient care. An Epsom family is urgently raising £250,000 for their toddler’s life-saving cancer treatment in the US. The treatment aims to prevent the return of neuroblastoma. Tackling Surrey’s Pothole Problem

Surrey County Council is investing over £200 million to improve roads and pavements, using new technology and increased resources to tackle potholes effectively. For more information visit the Surrey County Council Potholes web page.

Serious Collision in London Road

A child sustained serious injuries in a collision with a motorbike on Sparrow Farm Road and the A24 Ewell Bypass on 12 May. The road was temporarily closed, and two individuals have been arrested. Witnesses are urged to come forward. Contact details Surrey Police.

Epsom Symphony Orchestra Delivers Spanish Fiesta

Explore the origins and continued flourishing of fantasy in the exhibition “Fantasy: Realms of Imagination,” returning to Surrey Libraries. Visit Banstead Library to dive into the rich history and modern impact of the fantasy genre, open until 10th July.

Dinner at the Secret Garden Courthouse

Age Concern Epsom and Ewell invites you to a wonderful summer evening at The Secret Garden at Ewell Court for a fundraising charity dinner. This event will be held on Friday, June 28th from 7pm, with a cost of £30 per person for a three-course meal, including tea or coffee. Ewell Village Fair

St Mary’s Church is holding its annual Ewell Village Day on 13th July. This year is really special as they are teaming up with 135 Geographic Squadron (Reserves), whose Barracks are in the Parish, and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, along with the Royal British Legion Epsom and Ewell, to celebrate some of the wonderful aspects of Ewell Village’s life and history. 

From 10.00am the Squadron and Military band will be marching from the Barracks in Welbeck Close to Bourne Hall. The fair will finish at 4.00pm. Free Admission.
