Epsom and Ewell Team Wins Multi-Sports Event
Epsom and Ewell’s over-60s team took the overall title at The Better Club Games Tournament, an annual event for over-60s. The event took place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Copper Box Arena on October 2, 2024. Over 400 people from 20 local teams participated in various sports, including darts, dominoes, short tennis, short mat bowls, swimming, badminton, table tennis, cycling, walking and walking football. Auto Number Plate Recognition parking system
Epsom & Ewell Borough Council are installing a new Auto Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system at the Ashley Centre car park in Epsom town centre this month. Work will begin from 14 October and is expected to take three weeks to complete, good news for one driver who recently wrote into the Epsom and Ewell Times, as featured.
Ashtead Rotary Community Awards 2024
Ashtead Rotary Club recognized local heroes at the 2024 Ashtead Rotary Community Awards. The awards honored individuals and groups for their service in the categories of Individual Community Service, Group Service Award and Service above Self Community Award. New Banstead Pantry
A new community food store called Banstead Pantry has opened on Banstead High Street, offering affordable groceries to those in need. Stocked with donations and surplus food from supermarkets, members can receive £30-£35 worth of food for just £5 a week. The project, led by Raven Housing Trust and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, aims to reduce food poverty in Surrey.
Chef Wins at Asian Restaurant Awards
Colombo Kitchen in Sutton has been honored with two prestigious awards at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA) 2024, which took place on October 6 at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London. Head Chef Sylvia Perera claimed both the National Chef of the Year and Surrey Chef of the Year titles. The restaurant, which was named Sri Lankan Restaurant of the Year at ARTA 2023, is widely known for its authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and has become a local favorite.
M25 Junction 10 Closure
National Highways plans one more weekend closures at the M25 junction 10 Wisley Interchange for infrastructure improvements. Stay updated on the closures at National Highways. Date: 9pm on Friday 1 November to 6am on Monday 4 November

Epsom and Ewell Veterans Community Hub
Organized by Surrey County Council and Epsom Rotary, the Epsom and Ewell Veterans Community Hub provides support for veterans. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Army Reserve Centre Ewell, KT17 2BG. To find out more visit Epsom and Ewell Veterans Community Hub.
University of Surrey Research Festivals
This November, the University of Surrey hosts both the ESRC Festival of Social Science and The Being Human Festival. The Being Human Festival is the only UK national festival dedicated to the humanities; exploring themes related to identity, culture, and the human condition. The ESRC Festival of Social Science focuses on the real-world impact of social science research. ‘Both festivals are designed to be interactive, accessible, and thought-provoking’ and open to the public.

Conquest Art Exhibition
Conquest Art is hosting its Annual exhibition at The Horton in Epsom from October 16-26. The exhibition will showcase the diverse work of artists with disabilities, with visitors invited to purchase artwork, cards, and calendars. For more information visit Conquest Art event.
