The Epsom and Ewell Mayor’s civic reception
The Epsom and Ewell Mayor’s civic reception took place at Bourne Hall, Ewell on Friday 8th March. T’his special annual event witnessed the conferment of the title of Alderman of Epsom and Ewell to three long-serving local councillors. The ceremonies began with the Mayor Rob Geleit (Labour Cllr Court Ward), presenting this years award Active Citizen Award.
Standing in Solidarity with Ukraine
The Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network (EERN) and Surrey Stands with Ukraine (SSWU) held a special gathering on Saturday February 24th in the Market Place in Epsom. This gathering marked the solemn second anniversary of the commencement of the war in Ukraine. The local Ukrainian Choir Renaissance sang a moving rendition of the Ukrainian National Anthem, followed by a heartfelt prayer for Ukraine. The SSWU charity is sending a long-laddered fire engine to Zaporizhzhia (pictured) and is sending its100th van packed with aid to Ukraine this week. The day’s event raised over £1000.
New Bus Route for S2 through the Borough
The inauguration of Bus Route S2 commenced operations on 2nd March 2024, the S2 service runs seven days a week, including Sundays, providing a crucial link between Epsom and St Helier Station. The new route serves several key areas, including Ewell East, Cheam, and Sutton, enhancing connectivity for residents in these regions.
Care home approved on former police station site
Plans for a care home on the site of a former police station have been approved by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council. The development of an 85-bed care home on the Epsom site in Church Street will also include facilities for a shop, cinema and hairdresser.
Surrey “relay” car thieves sent down
Four members of an organised crime group (OCG) responsible for the theft of 53 high value vehicles in Surrey and the South-East have been sentenced to a total of 12.5 years behind bars at Guildford Crown Court on Friday 8th March.
Stagecoach Student lands leading role
A student of Stagecoach Performing Arts in Epsom landed the lead role in the National Theatre’s musical production of Roald Dahl’s The Witches. Vishal Soni fought off strong competition in auditions to land the role of Luke in a rip-roaring musical version of Roald Dahl’s timeless tale.
