The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper local news section for the two weeks ending 21st July includes environmental news, crime stories, a Royal visit, new openings and musical dates for your diaries.
Surrey County Council have announced that a new Special Educational Needs (SEND) unit, providing twenty one places for children, has been approved in Epsom. However, two hundred and fifty school places could be lost at Epsom’s Kingswood House SEND school, if a planning application is approved and the lease is terminated to allow developers to build on the land.
In Mayoral news, the award winning famous, family owned restaurant Le Raj hosted a fundraising event for the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell to support his seven charities: Epsom and Ewell Foodbank, Shine Cancer Support, Cardiac Risk In the Young, Racing Welfare, Epsom Sports Club, BLISS and JDRF Diabetis research. with further plans to host events for future fundraisers over the mayoral year. In other news, the Mayor opened Surrey’s first Local Pantry in Epsom, operating as a free membership food club and neighbourhood hub, its aim is to help people with the high living costs.
A Royal visit was made by HRH The Earl of Wessex to the oldest Royal borough of Kingston to unveil a plaque commemorating the site where the first king of England was crowned in 925 AD. The Earl’s visit also marked the official opening of Kingston’s new Jubilee Trail celebrating the borough’s rich royal heritage, created by Kingston Council along with the Friends of Kingston Museum, Kingston Tour Guides, The Kingston Society, All Saints Church and Creative Youth.
