West Ewell Street Party

“The residents of Station Avenue in West Ewell beat the weather by holding their street party on Friday 3rd June. The Avenue has an active WhatsApp group, formed during the pandemic, and it was through this that the idea of a street party was developed. Residents donated to a fighting fund which enabled bunting and prizes for kids to be bought. Radio Jackie also generously donated some prizes.
The festivities really began two weeks prior to the Jubilee weekend when bunting was hung from lamp posts and houses so that it zigzagged the street from beginning to end (all one mile of it!). The day before the party residents came together to cut grass and get everything ready for the party. Come the day residents brought their own picnics, gazebos and chairs and everyone mucked in to provide obstacle courses, face painting, archery, golf and many other games for the little (and not so little) ones to enjoy. One resident made a fabulous Jubilee trifle which everyone enjoyed
Barbara Lewis, speaking on behalf of the residents, said “The weather was perfect, which was just reward for the effort, support and hard work residents put into making our street party such a success. It was a joint effort with everyone contributing something. It was a joy to see both the community spirit we have in action and how much everyone enjoyed the day. Long may it last. We hope that all street parties throughout the land had as good a time as us. It was a fitting tribute to her Majesty for the 70 years she has served this country so graciously and magnificently. We won’t be waiting for another National celebration to have our next street party!”
