Planning News

One of our many planning news stories for the borough is that Epsom and Ewell Borough Council‘s Planning Committee decided to retrospectively authorise the prairie dogs enclosure at Hobbledown Farm in Epsom.

Nonsuch Park Dog Walkers

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council launched a six-week consultation on commercial dog walking in Nonsuch Park. For more information and to take part in the consultation before it’s closure on the 3rd June visit Commercial Dog Walking Consultation

Boxing Champions

A new local boxing programme, led by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and delivered by Epsom Boxing Academy, saw its first cohort graduate in March. Graduating students were awarded an England Boxing Bronze Award which was complimented with an AQA Empire Fighting Chance Award in nutrition and health.

Surrey’s Greener Future

As the 2023 to 2024 tree planting season drew to a close, the Surrey County Council Tree Planting & Establishment Team announced they had led another successful season. The season included the planting of trees and many other projects supporting Surrey’s Greener Future.

Grass Cutting in Your Area

Health News

Animal Practices

The University of Surrey’s School of Biosciences and School of Veterinary Medicine have joined the European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare. Ensuring animals are treated well throughout their lives and using sustainable farming practices are part of a partnership to control the spread of infectious diseases and improve animal welfare.

Climate-related Health News

A demonstration, organized by the Planetary Health Coalition, aimed to spotlight the pressing need for action on climate-related health issues affecting the community on Thursday 18th April. Epsom residents were led by Dr. Kristine Damberg, based at Epsom Hospital, when they converged on the General Medical Council headquarters in Central London, decrying what they perceive as the regulator’s pitiful response to the urgent health risks posed by climate change.

Transport News

M25 Closure

Greater chaos has been avoided with the next closure of the M25 by our friends at the Epsom and Ewell Times. They corrected the Highway Authority‘s belief you could turn off the northbound A3 to go south at the Hook Junction. The next National Highways closure of the M25 will be the six-mile stretch of the M25 between Junction 9 at the A243 for Leatherhead and Junction 10 for the A3 at Wisley between 10th and 13th May 2024. The remaining closures will occur between July and the end of 2024, with dates to be announced following the May closure.

Beacon lighting ceremony to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

The event will take place on the evening of 6 June on the Epsom Downs. The meeting was warned the some areas would be fenced off on 6 June due to the racehorse event. Fish and chips will be available to buy at the racecourse, with National Fish and Chip Day moving from its traditional Friday slot to coincide with the D-Day celebrations.
