In the Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper local news section for the two weeks ending 18th August 2022 we have competion winners, charity fundraising and environmental advice. This week we begin with an uplifiting story from a town in Ukraine who want to find and thank two Epsom children.
We have the story of Barrett Homes donating to the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury, The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, to help them with their valuable work in the rehabilitation centre and in the community. In another fundraising story, a collaboration Go Epsom, The British Hat Guild and Epsom Downs Racecourse raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. Promoted as “Hats Fit for a Queen”, as part of Go Epsom’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, hats designed by the Guild were worn by celebrities and displayed at this year’s Epsom Derby and then auctioned online to raise funds.
In good news for people with a mobility impairement and parents with prams, access to West Ewell station has been improved with a new footbridge providing step-free access. The Mayor of Epsom and Ewell and Chair of Ewell Village residents association attended the opening of the footbridge, funded by the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme.
In environmental news, Surrey County Council explain how they are saving water and advise residents and businesses to visit their website for advice on saving water. In other council news, Epsom and Ewell borough council have won a Green Flag award for Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve, for the 16th year, crediting the hard work of staff and community volunteers.
We have the results of the Sutton in Bloom competion: Maggie’s at the Royal Marsden, Cheam Common Junior academy and the front garden of a resident in Carshalton were amongst the winners.
In care providers news, at-home care providers Visiting Homes North Surrey win the Best International Office award, competing against other international competitiors. We also have information for a new care home that has opened in Surbiton Surbitonian Gardens.
