Conservationist Simon Cowell MBE Passes Away

Simon Cowell MBE, renowned conservationist and founder of the Wildlife Aid Foundation (WAF), has passed away. His work included the creation of the TV series “Wildlife SOS” and international conservation efforts. Cowell’s legacy continues under the leadership of his daughter, with the ongoing project the Wildlife Aid Foundation.

Epsom and Ewell Local Plan Development

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council is currently reviewing public feedback and gathering evidence on the new Local Plan. Public consultations are expected in early 2025. To find out more, visit the new Epsom and Ewell Borough Council Local Plan FAQs webpage.

Windrush Day Reflections by Epsom Hospital Director

Daniel, Director of Nursing Fundamentals of Care at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, shared personal reflections on Windrush Day, commemorating her aunt’s experiences as a nurse who emigrated from the Caribbean. Despite facing racism, her aunt contributed significantly to the NHS and community life. The hospital has launched the “Ask Auntie” app to support new international workers. M25 Junction 10 Closure Announcement

The M25 between junctions 10 and 11 will again close from July 12 at 9 PM to July 15 at 6 AM to allow for the bridge construction. Motorists are advised to follow official diversion routes. This closure is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce pollution. More details are available on the National Highways website.

Campaign to Save Glyn Hall in Ewell

Volunteers are working to save Glyn Hall, a historic community space in Ewell, from being sold to developers. Plans are underway to replace the aging structure with a modern facility. Details of the campaign and fundraising efforts can be found on the Glyn Hall Ewell website.

Epsom Picturehouse Open

Epsom Picturehouse opened its doors to the public at the beginning of June, it boasts six screens, including one dedicated to Epsom’s old Electric Cinema, and a bar and café area. They screen family, world, art, and studio films, and offer regular activities and events including autism-friendly screenings, baby-friendly screenings, Kids Club, Toddler Time, and dementia-friendly screenings. Explore the origins and continued flourishing of fantasy in the exhibition “Fantasy: Realms of Imagination,” returning to Surrey Libraries. Visit Banstead Library to dive into the rich history and modern impact of the fantasy genre, open until 10th July.

Ewell Village Fair

St Mary’s Church is holding its annual Ewell Village Day on 13th July. This year is really special as they are teaming up with 135 Geographic Squadron (Reserves), whose Barracks are in the Parish, and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, along with the Royal British Legion Epsom and Ewell, to celebrate some of the wonderful aspects of Ewell Village’s life and history. 

From 10.00am the Squadron and Military band will be marching from the Barracks in Welbeck Close to Bourne Hall. The fair will finish at 4.00pm. Free Admission.

Summer Breeze at the King’s Church Epsom

Join the King’s Church Epsom on Sunday, July 21st from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM for an afternoon of fun, games, music, and free food and refreshments. Visit King’s Church Epsom for more details.
