How we handle listener and volunteer data

The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper (EETN) collects and processes certain types of information as a necessary part of carrying out its responsibilities and administering its operations. With effect from May 2018 such information is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation.

EETN will only use personal information provided by individuals and will use this information:-

  • to keep our Register up to date.
  • to manage the EETN.
  • to provide services.

Information about listeners and volunteers will not be knowingly shared with any third party or used in any other way unless such use has been agreed by the person involved or when EETN is legally obliged to do so.

The EETN maintains technical and other security arrangements to safeguard personal information of both listeners and volunteers.

Such personal information is subject to certain rights of access by the individuals to whom it relates which entitle them to:-

  • the right to be informed
  • the right of access
  • the right of rectification
  • the right of erasure
  • the right to restrict processing
  • the right to data portability
  • the right to object
  • the right not to be subject to automated decision-making including profiling

Anyone wishing to make a request in respect of personal information held by EETN should apply in writing.

Cookie Policy

The UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) sit alongside the Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR. They give people specific privacy rights in relation to electronic communications. Amongst other things, they provide specific rules about cookies and similar technologies. Cookies are small text files that websites can place on your computer or phone while you browse a website.

Volunteers who access a password protected page will encounter these cookies:

‘Session cookies’ are removed when you leave the web page or close your browser.

Using guidance issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office we have classified the above cookies as strictly necessary for providing our ‘information society service’ and so user consent is not required.

We do not use cookies from other websites (termed ‘third party’ cookies).

While we use website analytics to understand how the website is used, to protect your privacy we do not use cookies for this purpose. (We use a hashed IP address with a salt that is changed daily.)
