Local news week of 7th June 2021

In this week’s Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper’s local news section, we begin with news of potential job losses at Kingston Universtity (KU), following cuts to Arts and Humanities courses. We have news that Epsom and Ewell is the fourth prosperous in the country, according to the UK Prosperity Index. We have a story about the borough’s Keep Epsom and Ewell Tidy (KEET) iinitiative as part of the Great British Spring Clean campaign and it’s Epsom in Bloom entry.

In a news story, we learn that Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Lisa Townsend’s, has appointed the youngest deputy in the country, recruited to tackle priorities such as violence against women and girls, domestic abuse, rural crime and pet theft. Unfortunately, we have disappointing news of the rise in local Covid cases but a heartwarming story about fundraising for the Coronavirus crisis in India by Surrey opticians.
