Local News week of 7th February 2022

In this week’s EETN local news section we have the latest from MP Chris Grayling’s newsletter.

Our friends, at Banstead Rotary Club raised over ten thousand pounds at Christmas for charity, kindly that included a donation to the EETN.

In environmental news from Surrey County Council we have a story that Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel is going to be used in Surrey’s gritters to reduce carbon emissions and street lights are to be converted to LED.

In Ashtead village news, there are no plans to increase the number of free parking spaces and an Ashtead councillor calls for set dates for the charging points installation schedule for Ashtead Peace memorial hall car park.

Surrey Police warn of porch parcel piracy as parcels are being targetted and stolen. The advice is to take preventative measures such as tracking your parcel, installing a video doorbell and parcel boxes.

A new NHS Carers Health Check services has been set up for Surrey’s unpaid carers, to provide free health checks in a 30 minute telephone call which will signpost the carer on to other services.

Epsom Borough Council have announced this year’s Herald of Spring at Bourne Hall is all about sustainability. With a Womble theme, there will be environmental displays from Ashtead Park Garden Centre. There will be the usual Gift fair and Children’s activities and entertainment as well as two competions: a Scarecrow Competion and a Make Your Own Tray Garden Competition to be judged on the day by the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell. There is also a request for your old whellies to be dropped off at Bourne Hall reception for use in the displays and for a children’s game.

The Patching Up Ewell quilt will be relocated on to a wall in Bourne Hall for visitors to view and study the handiwork that went into creating each square, don’t forget to look out for our very own EETN square.
