Local News week of 16th Aug 2021

In this week’s Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper, we begin the local news section with tributes to former Epsom and Ewell Mayor, Robert Foote, following the tragic accident at Brands Hatch on the 31st July 2021.

We have several consultation announcements. Epsom and Ewell Borough Council have launched a consultation on whether Horton Cemetary should be added to the council’s local list of buildings, monuments and landscapes which have historical or architectural interest. There’s a community consultation on the future of a wilder Hogsmill. South Western Railway are consultating on their proposal to reduce the number of trains from Ashtead and Epsom to London Waterloo.

We have some exciting news from the Ashley Centre about their launch of the ACE Rewards app that will offer various rewards to shoppers when they scan QR codes in shops.

EETN News Editor, Jan Collier has news about the opening of the new branch of Lidl in Epsom. and details of a community open day at the Princess Alice Hospice Charity shop in Epsom, on Friday 20th August, 10:00 to 2:00pm.

We finish with information about the Heritage Open Day 2021 Festival, which runs for 10 days from Friday 10th September with self-guided walks, access to historic houses, gardens and attractions. On the morning of the 12th September at the Epsom Downs Racecourse, you can go behind the scenes and visit the horses in their stables and training yards. We also have details of the Ewell Village History day, which takes place on the 18th September.
