Local News for 22nd Nov 2021

This week’s Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper local news section will get you in the festive spirit with details of the Christmas lights switch on this Friday 26th November, and news of events and Santa’s Grotto! We also have heart warming stories of fundraising, volunteering and this year’s Rememberance service in Epsom town centre.

We have charitable news with stories of two donations of medical equipment, with a Vein Finder to the Special Care Baby Unit, Epsom Hospital, by Epsom Medical Equipment Fund (EMEF) and a life-saving bleed control unit in Sutton, made by the Chris Donovon Trust. An Epsom women receives an award from Princess Anne for her 30 years of voluntary work for the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and Ewell Rotary Club have launched their annual Project Wenceslas to raise money for tackling winter fuel poverty.

We have environmental news with a story of a local resident who went on hunger strike in protest that the target global temperature of 1.5 centigrade should be kept to at COP26 and that in an environmental scale, Epsom and Ewell only rank at 214 out of 314 English local authoritiy areas. Epsom and Ewell also don’t do well in meeting housing targets being called “the worse performing borough”, in another story.

In better news we have new openings with the Cappadocia restaurant on Epsom High street and the new Horton Arts Centre.

Please listen to this week’s audio local news for details of these and other stories, including all the dates and times of the upcoming events, fairs and shows leading up to Christmas. Please do remember to share with anyone you know who is blind, visually impaired or has trouble holding a newspaper. Thank you!
