Today, Thursday 3rd March, 2016, Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper bid a fond farewell to its Chairman Peter Owens, who has worked hard for many years to progress EETN in line with the rapidly changing way in which news is distributed.
Peter thanked the team of some 30 volunteers for their time and work with the charity, and without whom, he said, the 41 year old Talking Newspaper could not continue.
He then gave a warm welcome to the newly elected Chairman, Judy Sarssam, whom he said was a most dedicated Committee member and, being herself visually impaired, was the perfect candidate to lead EETN forwards.
Rising to a round of applause and much appreciation from Committee Members and long term listeners including Maureen and Les Farndon, Judy praised the work of her predecessor and said how much she was looking forward to her new role.
“We are sorry that Peter has retired from EETN due to family commitments. He has been a firm hand on the tiller these past few years, during a time when the Charity Commission has been demanding more and more accountability. There have also been huge technological advances in the production of the TN, whose improved quality reflects not only Peter’s direction but the dedication and hard work of the whole production team.
“All the members of EETN extend a big thank you for his contribution to the on-going success of this publication. I am delighted to have been elected as Peter’s successor and looking forward very much to the challenge of being the new Chairman of EETN.”
After the business of the day was complete, everyone enjoyed tea and biscuits and much lively discussion about exciting plans for the future of EETN.
